he Tangerang Police named on Saturday a 15-year-old boy, identified only as R, as a suspect in the murder of his sister, identified only as P, 13. The killing took place at their rented house in Duku village in Ciledug, Tangerang, on June 7.
Ciledug Police's detective chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Hanadi Afendi said the decision to name the suspect was based on three pieces of evidence, including a statement by R that he killed his sister after being urged by a spirit, which he described as a black and heavily built creature.
'R's parents said their son had been studying certain martial arts and mysticism for a month prior to the alleged murder. A psychiatrist from the National Police Hospital in Kramat Jati has checked the suspect's mental condition and the result will be released on Wednesday,' Afendi told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
He added that R was now fully cognizant and deeply regretted his actions.
Afendi said according to the testimony, the murder occurred when R arrived home after praying at a nearby mosque. At that time, P was alone at home and had just finished taking a bath. 'The suspect said the spirit told him it was the right time to kill his sister. Otherwise, he and his parents would be killed,' Afendi said.
He then lost control of himself and took a butcher's knife from a table to attack P. 'When R saw she was dead, the spirit told him to cut himself with the knife, R did so and the pain caused him to scream for help from the neighbors,' Afendi said.
Ciledug police found R with a wound to his neck and P's dead body at their home on June 7. R was brought to Bhakti Hospital for treatment before being questioned about the case.
Afendi said the DNA of the blood on the knife belonged only to P and R, while sweat found on the knife handle matched R's.
'The suspect is now being detained at the Tangerang Police office. We are completing the dossiers to be submitted to the Tangerang Prosecutor's Office,' Afendi added.
The police have charged R under Article 338 of the Criminal Code on murder, which carries a maximum 15-year prison sentence and Article 80 on violence against children of the 2014 Child Protection Law.
Meanwhile, police were continuing to investigate another murder case in South Tangerang. On Saturday, Pamulang Police found the body of Citra Khairiyah Ikhlas, 19, in the bathroom of a rented room in Pamulang. She was found naked with wounds to her neck and body.
'We are still looking for Tamji Bayu Kusuma, 21, the victim's husband,' Pamulang police detective Second Insp. Ahmad Mulyono said. (rbk)
