entral Jakarta Mayor Mangara Pardede has urged residents to be conscious of the risk of fires during Ramadhan and the lead-up to Idul Fitri.
Mangara warned that the potential for fires was high at this time, as kitchens were even busier than usual with people waking early to eat sahur (pre-dawn meals).
'I call on residents to be aware of your kitchen and electrical plugs, always check the stove,' he said during a breaking-of-the-fast event at Syiar Islam Mosque in Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Sunday.
Mangara also encouraged neighborhood unit heads to intensify siskamling (neighborhood watches).
