he NasDem Party, one of the pro-government political parties, has supported a call for representatives from opposition parties to be included in President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's Cabinet in the upcoming reshuffle.
'It will be good for [the House of Representatives] and the government and will allow Jokowi to accelerate his programs,' said NasDem secretary-general Patrice Rio Capella on Monday.
As the country was currently facing an economic downturn, he said that political parties should put all rivalry aside and try to overcome the problem together.
'It is better to be together than to continue with our unnecessary arguments,' he said.
The leader of the pro-government alliance, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), had earlier suggested that Jokowi take ministers from the opposition camp.
PDI-P deputy secretary-general Ahmad Basarah said the move was important for ensuring political stability.
The leaders of opposition parties have so far rejected the idea, saying that they will be a consistent force to watch over and criticize the government.
