Despite progress as one of the world's biggest democracies, Indonesia's law enforcement is still substandard and rampant with human rights violations, a report by the US government states.
Released on Thursday, the 2014 US Department of State's Country Reports on Human Rights Practices highlighted the Indonesian government's failures in conducting transparent public investigations into some allegations of unjustified killings, torture and abuses by security forces.
The report mentioned a number of examples, including the 2013 killing of pro-independence campaigners at a prayer service and flag raising ceremony in Sorong, West Papua, which allegedly involved security forces.
Another case mentioned in the report involved the murders of three individuals during the forced dissolution of the Third Papuan People's Congress. The case remains unsolved with no officials held accountable for the crimes.

For me it is still a very good reason not to visit or invest in Indonesia.

Yes, justice has to be equally available to all to prevent the abuse of any particular group. If West Papua is to remain under Indonesian control, Indonesia must ensure the West Papuans have access to a fair,
strong, competent, incorruptible justice system.

Talking about justice, why no reporting of killings in Tunisia, Kuwait and France? Until there is proper reporting, don't talk about justice.

The Papuans love all human beings. The Papuans love Indonesians, Javanese and all other people.
The Papuans just want to live in peace and justice.
What do you think if the Indonesian government cannot ensure human rights protections in Papua?
Do you agree with the government killing its own citizens in the name of sovereignty? Is sovereignty more important than human rights?
Do you believe that more than 60 years of violations and injustice in Papua is a short time?
Since Papua was incorporated into the Republic of Indonesia in 1969, more than 200,000 native Papuans have been killed including women and children. Is that a small number? Do we appreciate the value of human rights?
Those who have never lived in Papua will never know what is actually going on there because they never experience these sorts of violations. We can now just pray that peace and justice in Papua can be completely established for the sake of humanity.

How dare the US comment? It's American money that Indonesia wants so they have every right to comment.

Self-examination? A total of 289 listed killings in 2015 by the police. California alone has seen 72 fatal shootings this year.
Remember that Texas policeman who showed up at a pool party and slammed a teenage girl in a bathing suit to the ground? Most US cases are transparent perhaps, but to say they´re doing some hard self-examination on this issue? Too soon to say that.
