Singapore's population is ageing faster than nearly any other society in the world, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said Tuesday, warning this could have a serious impact on the economy and defense.
Lee, 63, said he was worried that the city-state's population was expanding at its slowest pace in a decade despite the government's incentives to encourage citizens to produce more babies.
'Who is going to pay the taxes to spend on whom?' he asked in a speech at a forum organized by the Singapore Management University.
Your comments:
On a bigger scale, their low population growth balances other countries' expansion. I personally think that easier immigration policy would be a better solution rather than boosting the fertility rate.

There are many highly educated women in Singapore who enjoy their independence and do not want to become traditional housewives.
The government on occasions such as this is a victim of its own success.

PM Lee, you are paying for the mistake your daddy made in the 1970s, 1880s and 1990s when he limited children to just one.
