he Indonesian government will extend its manhunt for terrorists believed to be hiding in Poso, Central Sulawesi, with the launch of the third Operation Camar Maleo 2015 in the near future.
The second Operation Camar Maleo ended on June 7, 2015, Central Sulawesi Police chief Brig. Gen. Idham Azis told the press in Jakarta on Tuesday, according to Antara news agency.
The next operation will be launched by the police's Densus 88 counterterrorism unit, while Central Sulawesi will provide facilities.
Hundreds of police personnel, mostly from the Mobile Brigade of the Central Sulawesi Police, will be involved in the task.
The police will continue to hunt down members of the Santoso-led East Indonesian Mujahidin (MIT) who are still at large.
Until mid-2015, more than 10 alleged terrorists were arrested in the province, while two of them were shot dead. Most of the arrested terrorists were taken to Jakarta for interrogation.
Idham Azis urged local residents to report to relevant authorities any information they may have regarding the whereabouts of MIT members.
He also called on MIT members to surrender to the authorities with the guarantee that the police would not torture them.
"We will keep on looking for them until we catch them," he affirmed. (hhr)
