Thirty-year-old Yuliana, a resident of Parung, Bogor regency, West Java, gave birth to her first baby girl on a bus on the Kampung Rambutan to Merak Port route on Wednesday.
Yuliana delivered her baby, weighing 2.9 kilograms, on board at 8:45 a.m. while the bus was on the inner-city toll road. The bus driver asked for help from nearby traffic police officers Brig. Agus Susilo and First. Brig. Hermanto, who later took the baby and mother to the Medicine and Health Department (Biddokkes) at the Jakarta Police headquarters for further treatment.
Yuliana, along with her mother, eldest son, sister and niece, were heading to her hometown Lampung via Merak Port in Banten.
'The newborn and mother are both in good condition, but we suggest that they stay here for at least two days before continuing their journey,' the Jakarta Police medical division head Sr. Comr. Musyafak said on Wednesday.
Musyafak then took the liberty to name the baby Syahrini Murni Bhayangkarawati, as she was born on the 69th National Police Day (Bhayangkara Day). Murni comes from the name of the bus they were taking.
'As a reflection of her name, I hope the baby will be a good citizen and civil servant. Better still if she is interested in becoming a policewoman in the future,' said Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian.
