he Central Sulawesi Police have revealed they will continue the manhunt for members of a terrorist group in Poso regency by resuming Operation Camar Maleo III after operation II ended in June.
Central Sulawesi Police chief Brig. Gen. Idham Azis said the technicalities of the upcoming operation would be the domain of the National Police' Densus 88 counterterrorism squad, with his force providing supporting facilities. 'We already have a plan to implement the operation in the field,' Idham told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
Although the sectarian conflict in Poso officially ended with the signing of the Malino Accords in 2001 and 2002, the region remains a hotbed for terrorism. A group led by the militant Santoso is known to have been operating in the region over the past four years. He has reportedly abducted a number of residents in the Lembah Napu area of Poso regency, some 200 kilometers from the provincial capital of Palu.
The police believe Santoso has joined the Islamic State (IS) movement.
