he Malaysian government has deported 1,315 migrant workers from West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) so far this year, mostly for not having proper documentation, overstaying visas or involvement in criminal acts.
'On Sunday we received 21 migrant workers deported from Malaysia. They are among the 1,315 workers deported as of July this year,' head of the migrant workers employment and protection section of the NTB Manpower and Transmigration Agency ,Zaenal ,told thejakartapost.com in Mataram on Monday.
'Many of them arrived in Malaysia legally, but because they moved to new employers they became illegal because their documents were still held by their old employers,' he said.
He added that the cost of transporting the deported workers from Jakarta to Lembar Port in West Lombok, NTB, was borne by the Ministry of Social Services. From the port to their respective cities, their costs were paid by the local manpower and transmigration agencies.
