Jakarta Police health department head Sr. Comr. Musyafak said five victims had died in the fire, while 12 others had succumbed in hospital to severe burns injuries.
'The injuries were too bad. We did what we could, but unfortunately, they did not survive,' Musyafak said as quoted by kompas.com.
Forty further victims were being treated at a number of hospitals, he added.
Meanwhile, Bekasi Police spokesperson First Insp. Makmur said that Mandom had provided the families of each dead victim with cash aid for funeral expenses and monetary compensation.
'Mandom will pay Rp 10 million [US$745] for funeral expenses and Rp 100 million for life insurance,' Makmur said.
