Court tries Dahlan'€™s pretrial petition

T

he South Jakarta District Court held a hearing on Monday to try the pretrial petition filed by former CEO of state-owned company PT PLN Dahlan Iskan, who has been held suspect in connection with a central power transformer project worth Rp 1.06 trillion (US$79.14 million).

The court session was presided over by Judge Lendriaty Janis and was attended by Dahlan'€™s lawyer Yusril Ihza Mahendra and prosecutors from the Jakarta prosecutor'€™s office.

Yusril said that his client filed the pretrial petition to examine the arguments and evidence possessed by state prosecutors, and to ascertain why they had named him a suspect in the case.

According to Yusril, the state prosecutor'€™s office lacked adequate evidence to declare his client a suspect, and it was not an appropriate time to do so because his client was no longer president director of PT PLN.

'€œThe charges laid against Pak Dahlan are not in line with the timing of the prosecution,'€ he said as quoted by kompas.com.

Yusril said Dahlan was no longer PT PLN'€™s president-director, and that he had vacated that position as of October 26, 2012.

'€œWe want to examine the arguments and evidence presented by investigators to name Dahlan a suspect. If the evidence is not adequate, the status of suspect must be lifted,'€ he said.

Dahlan has been named a suspect in a graft case related to the construction of 21 power transformers in Java, Bali and West Nusa Tenggara between 2011 and 2013. (rms)(+++)
