akarta Smart Card (KJP) holders will ride Transjakarta buses for free starting from Aug. 3, in line with the 2015 Jakarta Book Fair, to be held at Senayan East Park in Central Jakarta.
'We are holding a trial this week. Next, maybe [KJP holders] can also enjoy Kopami and Kopaja minibuses for free,' Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said on Monday at the Jakarta Military Command field in East Jakarta.
Data from the Jakarta Education Agency shows that around 490,000 students hold KJP cards, which are intended mainly for students from low-income families.
Ahok was quoted by beritajakarta.com as saying that the Indonesian Military and the National Police might also enjoy the free services as well in the future.
The Indonesian Publishers Association's (Ikapi) Jakarta chairman Afrizal Sinaro said that the free Transjakarta services made the Jakarta Book Fair venue easier for students to reach.
He went on to say that Ikapi Jakarta, along with the city's Education Agency and Transportation Agency had provided 20 school buses to transport students from schools to the exhibition venue.
