lbeit late, Indonesia is set to see its first onboard e-ticketing system on a city bus, led by state-run bus company Perum PPD.
PPD president director Pande Putu Yasa confirmed that his company was ready to launch 78 buses featuring onboard e-ticketing facilities on August 10. He said the buses would be operated as part of PPD's Trans Jabodetabek routes, traveling to Jakarta from satellite cities such as Bekasi, Bogor and Depok in West Java and South Tangerang in Banten.
'The buses will also be equipped with GPS [global positioning systems] and CCTV [closed-circuit television],' Pande said as quoted by kompas.com in Ungaran, Semarang regency, Central Java, recently.
He added that passengers would be charged Rp 9,000 (66 US cents) when they tapped their electronic card on the onboard e-ticketing machine.
The Trans Jabodetabek buses, he said, would use Transjakarta's exclusive bus lanes as they were integrated with Jakarta-owned bus operator PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta). Thus, passengers boarding from Transjakarta bus stops would not be charged an additional fee to board a Trans Jabodetabek bus.
Pande said additional charges would only apply if a bus exited the capital city to reach its final destination in one of the satellite cities.
