Jakarta Police to detain Trade Ministry official related to Tanjung Priok corruption

T

he Jakarta Police will detain the Trade Ministry'€™s head of subdirectory non-imported capital goods Imam Aryanta as a suspect in the dwelling time corruption and money laundering case at the Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta as soon as he arrives in the country from a business trip to Canada.

'€œWe will immediately detain Imam Aryanta (IA) for questioning as soon as he arrives in Indonesia,'€ said head of public relations for Jakarta Police Mohammad Iqbal as quoted by Antara news agency on Friday.

Iqbal said that IA is considered a suspect after the police uncovered valid evidence linking him to the crime including witness testimony and seized physical evidence.

In addition to IA, the Jakarta Police also named two other suspects -- a daily freelance employee at the Trade Ministry by the initial M and an importer businessman by the initial MU.

It has also increased the legal status for the Trade Ministry's non-active director general for foreign trade Partogi Pangaribuan to suspect after he underwent more than 12 hours of questioning on Thursday night.

Iqbal also revealed that the investigators have banned overseas travel for the Trade Ministry's import director Thamrin Latuconsina.

The investigative team from the Jakarta Police has indicated that they will inspect more witnesses, meaning that there's a possibility that more suspects will be named.

So far the Jakarta Police have questioned 12 witnesses allegedly connected to the corruption and money laundering case at the Tanjung Priok Port. (nov/kes)(++++)
