The leaders of Indonesia and the UK expressed on Monday their commitment to boosting economic cooperation and improving security cooperation between the two countries in the fight against extremism.

The pledge was made during a bilateral meeting between President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo and British Prime Minister David Cameron, who was in Jakarta for his first official visit outside Europe since he won reelection in May, at the Presidential Palace on Monday.

Your comments:

Bilateral relations are good for both nations and Indonesia is desperate for infrastructure improvements that Britain is famous for. The article was interesting for what the politicians did not say in public. It seems that Indonesia will have to find a way not to execute a British national, no ifs, no buts.

Jokowi asked the UK to lower their taxes on Indonesian products, while Indonesia is increasing import taxes on products from other nations, including the UK.

Cameron came to Indonesia solely for a number of trade deals and deeper counterterrorism cooperation. For those two reasons Cameron was accompanied by a small group of ministers and about 30 businesspeople.

He is visiting several other Asian countries also to do trade deals and extend counterterrorism cooperation, so he will take his business elsewhere if Indonesia is not interested in discussing only those two reasons for his visit.
