Indonesia has targeted to export 700,000 tons of corn this year, as its export figure reached 400,000 tons in August.
Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said in a statement that the country had secured supply from corn-producing regions in Gorontalo, South Sulawesi and Dompu, Bima and Sumbawa in West Nusa Tenggara.
'Especially in Sumbawa, thus far, the region has exported 134,000 tons of corn,' he said as quoted by Antara news agency.
On July 31, the minister along with Sumbawa regent Jamaludin Malik led a ceremony to celebrate the export delivery of 12,000 tons of corn to the Philippines.
The minister said that with the current production, the national supply would be secured and no imports would be needed. (ika)(+++)
