he Jakarta administration is set to implement flat rates at 375 on-street parking locations across the city to gear up for a parking meter system.
Newly inaugurated Jakarta Transportation Agency head Andri Yansyah said that the rates would become effective starting this month only on streets where parking is allowed. The rates do not apply on streets where a parking meter has been installed, such as Jl. Agus Salim in Central Jakarta or Kelapa Gading in North Jakarta.
Andri said that the fees would be Rp 2,000 (14 US cents) for motorcycles and Rp 5,000 for cars, while trucks and buses would be charged Rp 8,000. The fees, he said, were in accordance with Gubernatorial Regulation
No. 179/2013 on parking services rates.
'The new rates take effect starting this month. This is to prepare for the parking meter system, which we will implement at all on-street parking locations across the city,' Andri told reporters at City Hall on Monday.
Andri said that the city administration previously did not charge vehicles for street parking.
