he Jakarta Police are set to operate a Rp 1.5 trillion (US$110.9 million) command center aimed at connecting thousands of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed across the city as part of efforts to maintain security and order.
Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian said the command center, which is expected to be set up at the city police's headquarters next year, will be connected to around 6,000 CCTV units currently installed throughout the capital.
'If we have an integrated CCTV system that is connected to our headquarters, we can provide faster security services. We can quickly move to deploy our personnel,' he said at the headquarters on Wednesday.
Tito expected that CCTV cameras that had been installed in office buildings in a number of strategic places across the city could also be connected to the planned command center.
Aside from that, he said, the Jakarta Police also expected that the number of CCTV units would be increased. 'Within next year, there are likely to be around 10,000 to 20,000 CCTV cameras,' Tito said.
