he East Kalimantan Police have arrested one man, identified as Herdi Ikhsan, for allegedly running an online prostitution ring that involved 12 local housewives.
East Kalimantan Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Fajar Setiawan said on Wednesday that Herdi was arrested in a hotel in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan on Tuesday, when he accompanied one of his sex workers with a client.
Fajar said Herdi had recruited 12 housewives aged between 20 and 35 for his business, which had been running for three months.
'He ran the business using the BBM [BlackBerry Messenger] network,' Fajar said, as quoted by tempo.co.
Fajar added that the housewives offered their services for Rp 1.5 million (US$108) a time, of which Herdi obtained Rp 200,000.
During interrogation, the housewives, who did not have backgrounds as sex workers, admitted that they got involved in the practice for economic reasons.
The police have named Herdi a suspect in the case, but they are still questioning other witnesses.(++++)
