Following the bombing of the Erawan Shrine on Monday, 23 countries have issued travel advisories for Thailand.
According to the Bangkok Post, the Thailand Foreign Ministry reported that 12 countries had issued level 2 advisories, advising their respective citizens to take extra care during trips to Thailand.
The 12 countries are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and the US.
Nine other countries, however, suggested a higher degree of caution, issuing a level 3 warning, advising that their citizens avoid any unessential travel to Thailand or at least choose a less risky destination than Bangkok.
Those nine countries are Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Ireland, New Zealand, Russia and the United Kingdom.
Only Hong Kong issued a level 4 warning, or a temporary 'do not travel' warning, for Thailand. In contrast to Hong Kong, the Netherlands is the only country to have issued a level 1 advisory, instructing its citizens to just be aware of the situation when traveling to Thailand.
Although one Indonesian citizen was reportedly killed by the Erawan Shrine bombing, no travel warnings have been issued by the Indonesian government. (nov/kes)(++++)
