enovo Indonesia, the local arm of Chinese computer giant Lenovo, says it does not plan to increase the prices of its laptop computers anytime soon despite the weakening of the rupiah against the US dollar.
Lenovo Indonesia's consumer products management head Felix Tanumihardja said the company did not plan to increase laptop prices because the strengthening dollar had not had a heavy effect on sales.
However, Felix said other products, such as Lenovo's smartphones, could be subject to price increases because such segments were more prone to the movements of the US dollar. On Monday, the rupiah fell to Rp 14,045 per dollar.
'For the laptops, we have been mainly conducting transactions using rupiah, so if the dollar fluctuates, the prices of laptops will stay the same. However, other segments have different policies and strategies, so smartphone prices are more likely to be affected by the 'super dollar' phenomenon,' he told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
Lenovo Indonesia's laptop sales have not performed as well as last year, Felix said, but he attributed the decline in sales to the current condition of the Indonesian and global economies toward consumers, which is also affecting the sales numbers of other companies. ' JP/dyl
