he all-female team assigned to select candidates to become the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) commissioner are called to focus on the sources of wealth owned by the candidates during
the final section process that is taking place from Aug. 24 to 26.
During the interview session at the State Secretary office in Jakarta, each
candidate will be given an hour to answer questions from the selection team. The team will suggest eight
candidates to President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and the President will hand over the names to the
House of Representatives for further scrutiny.
'The selection team should concentrate on where the KPK commissioner
candidates got their wealth,' a representative from the Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW), Tama S. Langkun, was
quoted by tempo.co as saying on Tuesday.
Tama said that the questions about wealth will help the team understand whether or not the candidates were involved in corruption.
Tama, who monitored the question and answer session, said that the team gave serious attention to the
wealth of two candidates -- Budi Santoso and Agus Rahardjo -- but not the other candidates.
The ICW previously noted bad track records for 10 out of the 19 candidates. Based on ICW research, eight of the 10 apparently undesirable candidates have poor
records in terms of integrity, while the other two simply lack the capacity to be a KPK commissioner. (bbn)(++++)
