PLN cuts electricity price in September

S

tate-owned electricity firm PLN announced on Tuesday that the prices of electricity for commercial customers in September would be cut due to the current slump in global oil prices.

The price cut is the third one this year after those given in July and August, kompas.com reported

Under the new policy, the new price for customers using more than 3,500 volt-amperes (VA) of electricity is set at Rp 23.17 (0.16 US cents) per kilowatt hour (kWh) lower than August'€™s price, or down to Rp 1,523.43 per kWh from Rp 1,546.6 per kWh.

Meanwhile, the price for the 200-kiloVA (kVA) customers is down to Rp 1,200.01 per kWh from Rp 1,218.26 per kWh.

The last category that receives a price cut includes customers using more than 30,000 kVA of electricity, with the price going down to Rp 1,069.85 per kWh from Rp 1,086.12 per kWh.

PLN explained that the price cut was attributable to the recent slump in global oil prices. It recorded that the price went down to $51.82 per barrel in July from $59.40 per barrel in June this year.

The drop in oil prices also contributed to lower electricity prices for non-subsidized customers in July, PLN stated. (edn/ika)(++++)
