akarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama says that he has no plans to raise the provincial minimum wage (UMR) in 2016 following workers recent demands to increase it by 22 percent.
"There will be none of that [the raising of the UMR]," said Ahok at City Hall in Central Jakarta on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
According to Ahok, the results of a standard cost of living (KHL) survey conducted in the city were good. Thus, his reasoning went, if the KHL is a benchmark for setting the minimum wage and if it has not increased, then there is no reason to raise the UMR.
He added that the provincial government has improved all the components available in the KHL.
"The wheat component has been replaced by instant noodles. We have replaced the drinking water with a higher quality and more expensive version. We also have changed the meat component. We improved many of the qualities," said Ahok. (kes)
