erpong Police have arrested Sukri, 70, in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old woman, identified as Maemunah, whose body was found in a lake in Kampung Ciater, Serpong district, South Tangerang, last Friday.
Serpong Police chief Silvester Simamora said the suspect had met Maemunah in a hut near the lake early on Friday morning. After making love, the couple had a quarrel as Sukri rejected Maemunah's request to prolong the tryst.
'Sukri pushed her into the lake causing her to drown,' said Silvester on Tuesday, adding that Maemunah had managed at one stage to get back to the edge of the lake but Sukri had pushed her back in again.
The police also said the suspect, who is currently being questioned in the Serpong subprecinct police office, was believed to be a relative of the victim's husband.
He added that the police would exhume Maemunah's body for an autopsy.
'We did not perform an autopsy on the victim's body when we found her. At that time her family assumed she had drowned [accidentally],' Silvester said.
