Bambang Brodjonegoro (Kompas
Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said on Tuesday that poor global sentiments had continued to slow economic growth around the world, including in Indonesia.
'There was no country saying they had high hopes for the year at the recent G-20 meeting in Turkey,' he said in Jakarta on Tuesday as quoted by Antara. The minister was speaking after he attended a meeting with the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Monday evening.
Bambang said that all countries attending the G-20 meeting agreed that this year's global economic growth would be lower than last year's.
'The G-20 is not a binding forum, therefore, it cannot take joint action or policy measures to overcome the current global crisis,' he said.
In 2014, the minister said, the global economy grew by 3.4 percent, while according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), global economic growth would reach only 3.2 percent in 2015.
'The IMF's growth forecast is usually set high in the beginning before it later declines. Thus, I'm a bit careful here and don't want to set too high a target,' said Bambang. (ebf) (++++)
