Indonesians killed in crane accident in Mecca now number six

T

he number of Indonesians who were killed by the collapse of a massive construction crane in Mecca'€™s Grand Mosque increased to six from the two previously reported, the Religious Affairs Ministry says.

According to the ministry, the four latest-known casualties were Painem Dalio Abdullah from Medan, Saparini Baharuddin Abdullah from Medan, Nurhayati Rasad Usman from Padang and Ferry Mauluddin Arifin Dulhai from Jakarta.

The two other victims were Masnauli Sijuadil Hasibuan from Medan and Iti Rasti Darmini from Jakarta.

The crane fell on Friday at about 5.30 p.m. as a result of strong winds and heavy rains. It is part of a massive project to expand the area of the mosque by 400,000 square meters, allowing it to accommodate up to 2.2 million people at once.

President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo, who is currently in Saudi Arabia as part of a four-day state visit to Middle Eastern countries, has instructed the religious affairs minister to provide the best support to the Indonesian victims. (bbn)(++++)
