he city police staged on Monday a reenactment of the murder of Japanese national Yoshimi Nishimura, 28, who was found dead on Sept. 7 in the Casa Grande apartment in Tebet, South Jakarta, revealing the gruesome details of the slaying.
The reconstruction, involving 82 different steps, disclosed that prior to strangling her to death on Sept. 4, the accused, Mursalim, 25, allegedly loaded her mouth with a rag as she kept on screaming and resisting.
'The suspect also [allegedly] repeatedly punched the victim's jaw and tied her hands together with an electric wire,' the Jakarta Police's general crimes unit head Sr. Comr. Krishna Murti said.
Earlier, Nishimura's head was slammed against the floor, causing her nose and lips to bleed. The accused was reportedly able to enter her room after she asked him to fix her door's keyhole, which the suspect had reportedly intentionally broken.
Police say Mursalim, a security officer at the apartment, confessed that he killed Nishimura to take a total of Rp 26 million of her money, as well as two Apple iPhones, bracelets, rings and earrings.
The suspect, apprehended in Bandar Lampung on Sept. 10, has been charged under Article 365 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on violent theft and Article 338 of the KUHP on murder, which carry a combined maximum sentence of 17 years behind bars.
