AKARTA: Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama has suggested that premium taxi services may travel in lanes designated for city-owned bus operator PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) buses.
Ahok said that premium taxi services encouraged upper-class residents to leave their vehicles at home.
'Premium taxis transporting a passenger may travel in designated Transjakarta lanes so the rich take premium taxis [instead of private vehicles],' Ahok told reporters at City Hall late on Thursday.
He said that the city administration and Transjakarta would first equip the lanes with movable concrete barriers to prevent other cars from using them. Further, sensors would be installed along the lanes so that only vehicles equipped with radio identification frequency (RFID) could pass.
