The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said on Tuesday that it was still investigating an alleged meeting between NasDem Party secretary general Patrice Rio Capella, other NasDem executives and non-active North Sumatra governor Gatot Pujo Nugroho, a bribery suspect.

The anti-graft body'€™s head of public relations, Yuyuk Andriati, said '€œif investigators need more information about the matter, [Patrice] will be summoned again,'€ as quoted by kompas.com at KPK headquarters in Jakarta on Monday evening.

NasDem Party chairman Surya Paloh, may also be summoned according to Yuyuk, if KPK investigators feel it would be beneficial.

The KPK have named Gatot a suspect in a bribery case involving judges and a court secretary from the Medan State Administrative Court (PTUN). The case began with the alleged misuse of lower regional assistance (BDB) and social assistance (Bansos) funds in 2012, 2013 and 2014, which allegedly involved a number of North Sumatra provincial administration officials. The North Sumatra administration then filed a pretrial petition against the corruption investigation, which is currently being processed by the Attorney General'€™s Office (AGO).

Earlier, KPK deputy chairman Zulkarnain said the commission was still investigating the reasons behind a meeting between several NasDem Party executives and Gatot and Gatot'€™s deputy, Tengku Erry Nuradi, at the party'€™s central office in Jakarta.

Zulkarnain said it was hoped that several witnesses being investigated by the KPK could give a thorough explanation to investigators of what had happened during the meeting.

The KPK suspects that the meeting between Gatot and NasDem Party executives was aimed at '€œsettling'€ the alleged Bansos funds misuse case that is currently being handled by the AGO. The commission got this impression from information provided by Gatot'€™s former lawyer, Razman Arief Nasution, who said that there was a meeting between Gatot and his wife, Evy Susanti, and Tengku Erry at the NasDem Party office. Surya Paloh was reported to have attended the meeting also.

Earlier, lawyer OC Kaligis who was also present at the NasDem Party office claimed that the meeting was held only to facilitate a reconciliation process between Gatot and Tengku Erry. Kaligis said he was surprised to see Patrice and Surya'€™s names connected to the legal case of the non-active North Sumatra governor.

'€œSurya Paloh is not part of this case [and] Pak Surya has nothing to do with it,'€ said Kaligis.

However, both Gatot and his wife Evy, both suspects in the bribery case, have claimed that they are ready to disclose the involvement of Surya Paloh and several other parties. (ebf)(++++)
