The festival, which was officially opened by President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo on Tuesday evening, will feature several competitions, including for vocal groups and children and women's choir categories.
In his remarks during the event's opening ceremony at Mandala Remaja Stadium, President Jokowi called on participants to use the event as a medium to promote national unity.
'You came here not only to sing, but also to spread news about peace, brotherhood and the unity of Indonesia,' he said, as quoted by tribunnews.com. The competition will run until Saturday.
