House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto and Deputy Speaker Fadli Zon have neglected to attend the House'€™s ethics council to answer questions about their controversial attendance at a campaign event held by US presidential hopeful in New York, US, last month.

'€œSetya and Fadli should have attended the ethics council,'€ ethics council members Junimart Girsang said as quoted by tempo.co on Monday.

Junimart said that the House was the symbol of Indonesia'€™s sovereignty and representative of the entire nation, adding that Setya and Fadli'€™s actions were an embarrassment for the House since they had traveled to the US using state funds and facilities.

The ethics council can force unwilling House members to attend its meetings, according to Junimart.

According to Article 232 of the House'€™s code of ethics, all members must '€œmaintain their dignity, honor, image and credibility while conducting their duties'€. (edn)
