One of the passengers from the missing chartered EC 130 helicopter has been found alive in the waters of Lake Toba, North Sumatra.

According to North Sumatra Police spokesperson Helfi Assegaf, the victim, Fransiskus Subihardayan, was found floating in the waters of Lake Toba at 1 p.m. on Tuesday and is now being treated at Onan Runggu Community Health Center (Puskesmas) on Samosir Island.

Fransiskus is the nephew of Nurhariyanto who was also a passenger in the helicopter.

A resident of Samosir, Robin, told thejakartapost.com that the victim was found around two miles from the Onan Runggu harbor by the Navy (TNI-AL).

"When he was found, he was floating naked on Lake Toba," said Robin.

The chartered EC 130 helicopter lost contact after departing for Kualanamu International Airport from Siparmahan village, Harian district, Samosir regency, at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday.

The helicopter, belonging to air transportation company PT Penerbangan Angkasa Semesta, was piloted by Capt. Teguh Mulyanto and had one engineer, Hari Poerwanto, and three passengers on board. It was reportedly chartered by Marihad Simbolon, a businessman from Samosir living in Jakarta.

The helicopter arrived at Marihad'€™s house in Siparmahan village at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday. After dropping off Marihad and his family, it took off at 11.30 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Kualanamu Airport around 45 minutes later.

According to a report by kompas.com, fragments of helicopter seat have been found in the waters of Lake Toba. The search and rescue effort continues today, involving hundreds of police personnel in Medan. (kes)(++++)
