Finding venues that offer live jazz is not difficult in Jakarta, but finding a combination of jazz and a French-based fusion fine dining experience is harder, though well worth the effort.

Motion Blue Jakarta, previously named Cotton Club, features a concept and an interior similar to the original Motion Blue in Yokohama, Japan. Situated on the third level of the Fairmont Hotel Senayan, the restaurant could be described as a dimly-lit, dark-toned space with a clean design and an opulent atmosphere '€“ perfect for hosting the finest musicians.

During its soft-opening period, a number of established jazz musicians from Indonesia and the globe are scheduled to perform including Lee Ritenour and Dave Grusin, David Benoit, Nial Djuliarso and Friends, the Oele Pattiselano Quartet and Andre Dinuth.

The dishes served up by chef Yoji Takanashi are also interesting. One option is Lobster Cevich as a starter '€“ a Spanish-style marinated cut lobster served with avocado, octopus and herb sprouts '€“ and red wine-stewed beef cheek for mains with a cream-sauced mushroom side.

A list of cocktails is also available to relax patrons' moods '€“ among the favorites is Rouxinol, with a mix of Brazilian rum, lemon juice and raspberry flavored wine. (kes)(++++)
