overnor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama has canceled plans to buy helicopters to assist fire fighting efforts in Jakarta.
Ahok said that he had met with President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and Air Chief Marshal Agus Supriatna, who had both assured him that the central government had allocated funds for the procurement of helicopters in the state budget.
Previously, Ahok said that the city administration would purchase one helicopter for fire fighting, adding that the administration would allocate funding for the procurement in the 2016 city budget.
'I have met with the air chief marshal and Pak Jokowi to tell them that Jakarta has canceled plans to buy a helicopter,' Ahok told reporters at City Hall on Monday.
Ahok said that the city administration would instead develop a low-cost apartment for Indonesian Military (TNI) officers. In return, Jakarta would ask the TNI, he added, to use its helicopters to help put out blazes in high-rise buildings.
