MyGadget: Christopher Emille: Keeping energy-saving in mind

Despite being an architect by training, Christopher Emille Jayanata has taken a different path that involves public education on a green, healthy lifestyle.

The cofounder of the Indonesian Organic Community (KOI), 40-something Emille has organized many events since 2006 to raise public awareness about healthy choices while at the same time creating a market for organic farmers.

Now that the KOI has members in many big cities in the archipelago, the organic chicken breeder often travels to build up the community.

While away, Emille brings along with him the 2,500 contact numbers on his Whatsapp message account and more on his phone.

'€œThe specification of a Mobile phone that I look for is a large memory bank,'€ he said.

Internet technology, he said, helped him to undertake the paperless lifestyle so he doesn'€™t have to print his flight tickets or bank transactions.

'€œBut not everyone understands this. I still have to explain it to the airport gate officers who ask me to show me the tickets when the one I have on my phone is just the same thing.'€

He says that mobile banking applications are the best innovation ever.

'€œFor my business, which involves a lot of cash transactions, m-banking is the boon of having a smartphone. Nothing is easier than transferring money from your phone. A smartphone can do many things that help us to save energy.'€

Galaxy Note Edge

I chose this phone over the Galaxy Note 4 for two reasons: the aforementioned large memory and because it is the only phone series that is compatible with 4G mobile telecommunication systems.

Canon EOS 70D

The camera has a built-in Wi-Fi connection that connects to my phone. I can instantly upload the photos to my social media accounts and those of KOI. And the photo results are just amazing. If I have to compare it with other cameras, such as Go Pro, the latter tends to produce a dramatic picture and I'€™m not too keen on it.

Applications

I don'€™t use laptops anymore. I used to have an IBM laptop for work but it got stolen. I replaced it with a Lenovo laptop but it crashed in three months. Currently I use a self-assembled PC at home where I work on my design. I use the Corel Draw X5 program to design posters for our events.

I mostly use various social media platforms such as Instagram to market our organic products. It really helps our sales.

I usually post photos to Instagram while trapped in traffic. And with my phone, I can easily create a poster out of the photo.
