ice President Jusuf Kalla said that the government would issue a new decree to follow up on a recent Supreme Court verdict that has granted leadership of the Golkar Party to former chairman Aburizal Bakrie.
Following a failed succession procedure, Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly had earlier issued a decree that acknowledged the leadership of Aburizal's rival, Agung Laksono.
A series of legal battles between the two camps resulted in a recent verdict by the court that had granted the leadership to Aburizal. Agung, however, did not concede since the ministry had yet to issue a new decree to legalize Aburizal's central board committee.
Kalla, who is also a former Golkar Party chairman, said on Thursday that the ministry would follow up on the court verdict.
'Of course, they will issue [the new decree],' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com, adding that the ministry would have three to four months to prepare the decree.
The Supreme Court has issued a verdict that annuls two separate national congresses that separately elected Aburizal and Agung as chairmen of the party. It orders that the party leadership be returned to the decision made in the previous national congress in Riau in 2009, when the party was still united.
After the court verdict, the two camps met and agreed to reconcile. They have also expressed support for President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's administration.
