President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo highlighted Indonesia'€™s hopes for a new climate treaty in the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework on Climate Change (UNFCCC) expected to take place in Paris in December during his bilateral meeting with Canada'€™s new prime minister, Justin Trudeau, in Antalya, Turkey, on Sunday.

Presidential communication team member Ari Dwipayana said in a press statement that during the meeting, Jokowi had urged Canada to increase its climate commitments as Indonesia has, namely to independently reduce its carbon emissions by 26 percent by 2030, or by as much as 41 percent with international support.

'€œThe two leaders have also agreed to increase cooperation in the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy, as well as on peatland management, between the two countries,'€ Ari said on Sunday.

'€œIn the field of transnational organized crime prevention and control, the two leaders have agreed to focus their cooperation on efforts to eradicate terrorism, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and drug smuggling,'€ he added. (ebf)
