nvestigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Attorney General's Office (AGO) on Tuesday questioned a number of officials and former North Sumatra legislators regarding alleged bribery related to an interpellation petition, budget approval and alleged misappropriation of social assistance funds (Bansos).
The KPK heard witnesses in the interpellation and 2012-2013 budget approval cases at the North Sumatra Police's Mobile Brigade (Brimob) building, while the AGO interrogated witnesses in the alleged misuse of Bansos funds at the Medan Prosecutor's Office.
'They asked me questions surrounding the interpellation and budget approval as well as regarding suspended governor Gatot [Gatot Pujo Nugroho],' said Syamsul Hilal, who was a councillor during the 2009-2014 term.
Beside Syamsul, a number of former officials and legislators were questioned, including the head of the North Sumatra chapter of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Japorman Saragih, and PDI-P faction head Budiman Nadapdap.
Acting KPK spokeswoman Yuyuk Indriyati said 16 former officials and legislators as well as active officials were summoned by KPK investigators to the Brimob building.
Yuyuk added that their status remained that of witnesses in the interpellation petition and budget approval cases. The KPK earlier arrested Gatot, a politician from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), and his second wife, Evi Susanto, on their alleged involvement in the Bansos case.
Last week, the antigraft body also detained North Sumatra Legislative Council speaker Ajib Shah and three other former and current local legislators for allegedly accepting bribes from Gatot. On the same day at the Medan Prosecutor's Office, the AGO's anticorruption task force examined former legislators, the head of the North Sumatra chapter of Islamic organization Al Washliyah, Hasbullah Hadi, and former North Sumatra General Elections Commission (KPUD) head Irham Buana Nasution in the Bansos case.
Medan Prosecutor's Office special crimes division head Haris Hasbullah said the prosecutors also examined a number of non-governmental organizations and individuals who allegedly received Bansos funds.
