ix gunmen robbed on Wednesday morning two jewelry stores located next to each other in a local market in Nusawungu, Cilacap regency, Central Java, leaving at least four people wounded by gunshots.
'The incident took place at around 8:40 a.m. when there were many people in the market. [We] suddenly heard multiple gunshots,' Wasid Waryanto, a local resident who witnessed the incident, told The Jakarta Post.
Wasid said the incident had taken place in only around three minutes before the robbers fled the scene.
Cilacap Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Ulung Sampurna Jaya said personnel were investigating the incident. 'We are collecting evidence from the crime scene while also cooperating with police in the neighboring Kebumen and Banyumas [regencies] to restrict the movement of the perpetrators,' he said.
Ulung said the two stores, Emas Adil and Naga Putri, had suffered billions of rupiah in losses in the incident, as the robbers had taken almost all of the jewelry on display.
