tate port operator Pelindo II, also known as the Indonesia Port Corporation (IPC), has officially filed a complaint against state-owned company PT Bahana Pembinaan Usaha Indonesia for what it claims are inconsistencies between a statement made by the company to House of Representatives lawmakers on Nov. 23 and its written report made earlier on April 27.
Pelindo's director of finance Orias Petrus Moedak said Bahana's statement to the House had apparently contradicted the conclusion of its review published on April 27.
Orias said the IPC never made any decision regarding the termination of its contract with Hong Kong-based Hutchison Port Holding (HPH) on the operation of the Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT).
'Yet, the statement made by Bahana [to the House] used the scenario of a termination,' Orias said in a statement.
As earlier reported, Pelindo II extended HPH's rights to operate the JICT for another 20 years in 2014. HPH's concession to operate the JICT ' which is a joint venture between Pelindo II and HPH established in 1999 ' was due to end by 2019.
Pelindo's labor union has alleged that the contract renewal caused state losses and violated the law, as it was renewed five years prior to the contract expiring.
The Pelindo II Oversight Committee had earlier said the state-owned port operator acted transparently when it renewed its contract with HPH.
