Five areas in Central Sulawesi are planning to create special focus locations for tourists coming to the province to observe the total solar eclipse in March next year.
Central Sulawesi's cultural tourism office head Siti Norma Madjanu said on Friday that the five areas serving as eclipse observation spots were Banggai, Sigi, Poso, Tojo Unauna and Palu.
"We are preparing various art and cultural attractions and tourism promotions. Each of the areas will show its own local wisdom," she said as quoted by Antara news agency.
The office also plans to hold cultural and entertainment events centered in Sigi and Palu during the eclipse to make the event more memorable.
Siti said that according to tourism office data, 3,000 foreign tourists had already made hotel bookings to witness the natural phenomenon.
There are 12 areas across Indonesia that can view the total solar eclipse, which will last for around three minutes at 7 a.m. on March 9. The cities are Palu, Poso, Banggai in Central Sulawesi; Halmahera, Ternate and Tidore in Maluku; Sampit and Palangkaraya in Central Kalimantan; Balikpapan in East Kalimantan; and Bangka, Belitung and Palembang in Sumatra island.
