fter being pressured by various quarters, the Surakarta municipality in Central Java has agreed to disburse the third installment of grant funds for the Radya Pustaka Museum after the museum previously announced it could not survive without it.
The matter was disclosed by Surakarta Financial Revenue Management Office head Budi Yulistianto on Thursday. According to him, the operational funds for the Radya Pustaka Museum will be disbursed even though the museum committee had yet to return Rp 50 million (US$3,700) from the previous term.
The third installment of Rp 80 million has been delayed three months because the museum committee used Rp 50 million from the earlier term for cultural activities of the museum, despite the fact that the funds should only be used for museum operations. The Supreme Audit Agency found out about the matter and demanded that the money be returned.
'In essence, the grant funds for the third term will be disbursed, but the committee must still return the Rp 50 million. The funds are expected to be disbursed by December at the latest for the museum's operational expenses,' Yulistianto said at City Hall.
Museum committee chair Purnomo Subagyo expressed relief at getting certainty of the disbursement because the museum had yet to pay its electricity, telephone and water bills, as well as staff salaries.
