LEMAN: Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, alias Gus Tutut, has been elected chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama'€™s (NU) youth wing, Ansor Youth Movement (GP Ansor), for the 2015-2020 term. His election was confirmed during the organization'€™s 15th congress in Sleman, Yogyakarta.

During the election held on Friday at the Sunan Pandanaran Islamic Boarding School, Yaqut won the support of 361 out of the 376 district branches that proposed him as a sole candidate for the post. Support also came from 30 out of 31 provincial branches nationwide.

'€œWith this, we endorse Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as chairman of GP Ansor,'€ said outgoing GP Ansor chairman Nusron Wahid, who presided over the election session, as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Born in Rembang, Central Java, in 1975, Yaqut also serves as a lawmaker representing the National Awakening Party (PKB). He has served on GP Ansor'€™s national board of executives since 2000.
