he Jakarta Police have released a Transjakarta driver who allegedly caused a collision between the bus he was driving and a commuter train on Saturday, as the accident caused no fatalities or major injuries, an officer has said.
The head of law enforcement at the Jakarta Police's traffic unit, Adj. Sr. Comr. Budiyanto, said on Monday that the police had not and would not detain the Transjakarta driver, Atmaja, 41, because the accident had resulted in only minor injuries.
A commuter train traveling between Tangerang and Duri, West Jakarta, collided with a Transjakarta bus on Jl. Panjang in Kedoya, West Jakarta. The accident left three motorcyclists with minor injuries.
According to the police investigation, Atmaja was using his cell phone while driving, and was therefore unaware of the presence of the train.
Budiyanto added that Atmaja would, however, have to report to the police twice a week, every Monday and Thursday.
'We are also confiscating his driving license,' he said.
The police have named Atmaja a suspect for violating Article 283 and Article 310 of Law No. 22/2009 on traffic. Article 283 stipulates that anyone found guilty of reckless driving caused by compromised concentration is subject to a punishment of a maximum three months in jail.
