MyGadget: Jay Subiyakto: Keeping up with the newest gadgets

Renowned artistic director Jay Subiyakto says that the world is moving toward digitalization and he is lucky to be able to witness and experience the new era.

'€œThe world has changed due to technology; the way we communicate, or the way we do business is different now,'€ he said.

'€œTechnology has become an important part of our lives, but to some extent, it also makes us more individualistic.'€

Jay said the rapid evolution of technology had also taken its toll on other sectors, including music and film.

'€œMany music, DVD, or book stores have been closed in recent years because their sales continue to decline as customers now turn to digital forms,'€ the 55-year-old said.

Although technology played a major role in his work and he frequently upgraded his gadgets to the latest versions, Jay said that he never used them for social media purposes.

'€œI don'€™t have any social media accounts, not because I am against it but I just don'€™t have time to do it,'€ he said.

Apple products

I'€™m a fan of Apple products because the designs are simple yet stylish. I use a MacBook Pro and iMac desktop for work as they can meet my needs for heavy work and are easy to use. I use an iPhone 6, although I actually like the iPhone 5s better because it is smaller, but I can'€™t resist the newest technology that it offers. The graphics are super sharp and the display is much better than the previous versions.

Mobile applications

I like skateboarding, so I'€™ve installed Longboard Speedmeter to measure my average speed, or to calculate the distance I have covered. I also have the Living Earth weather application on my phone. I can view the cloud patterns, so I can find out if it'€™s really going to rain or not.

I have FlightRadar 24 on my phone where I can track all flights all over the globe in real-time, or identify planes flying above us. I also love SkyView as it allows me to identify star constellations in the sky. I like to show my daughter this app and together we study the universe.

Sony RX100 III

I bring this camera everywhere with me. It'€™s small but it has 20 megapixels and a video feature. I can take good photos at music concerts, and unlike using a camera with a long-focus lens, people don'€™t feel intimidated when I take their pictures using this shooter. Some photos that I took with this were showcased in the recent Frankfurt Book Fair.
