A room at the Indonesian Embassy in Rome, Italy, caught fire at 08:25 a.m. local time on Wednesday.

Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir said the fire raged in one room on the first floor. '€œThe firefighter successfully put down the flames at 09:30 a.m.; the cause of the fire is under investigation by local authorities,'€ he said in a press statement.

Deputy Ambassador Des Alwi said the affected room remained closed for now. "All of the documents in the room were burnt, as well as office equipment, but it will not affect the embassy'€™s activities, because we have a multi-layer backup system," Des told thejakartapost.com.

He said a room on the second floor was also closed in anticipation of a possible collapse of the ceiling of the burnt room.

One staff member named Tazwin Hanif jumped down from the second floor amid heavy smoke and panicking. He was evacuated at 09:45 a.m. and treated for mild injuries.

The embassy was still waiting for an estimate from the insurance company regarding the financial damage caused by the incident.
