Greater Jakarta: City scraps fines for unpaid taxes

T

he Jakarta administration has scrapped administrative fines, in the form of interest penalties, for unpaid hotel, restaurant, entertainment and parking taxes, in an attempt to encourage taxpayers to pay their dues before the end of the year.

Tax Agency head Agus Bambang Setyowidodo said in a press statement that the relief applied to the tax periods of January 2014 to December 2014 and January 2015 to October 2015. The policy, he said, became effective as of Dec. 2 when he signed Tax Agency Decree No. 3032.

'€œThrough this policy, we hope to encourage business owners to pay their taxes,'€ Agus said.

Data from the agency shows that as of Wednesday, hotel tax amounted to Rp 1.2 trillion (US$85.6 million), 83.9 percent of the target of Rp 1.5 trillion; restaurant tax amounted to Rp 2.07 trillion of the target of Rp 2.1 trillion; entertainment tax Rp 532.9 billion of the target of Rp 550 billion; and parking tax of Rp 430.1 billion, which surpassed its target of Rp 425 billion.
