President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo has ordered East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Police chief Brig. Gen. Endang Sunjaya to solve human trafficking cases in the province. The number of human trafficking cases is quite high in the province and it continues to grow every year.

'€œThe President has asked me to solve human trafficking cases, which have caused public concern,'€ Endang said as quoted by Antara news agency on Thursday.

Endang further said that Jokowi was truly serious in his commitment to tackle human trafficking problems, including cases in which trafficked victims were camouflaged as Indonesian migrant workers.

The police chief said he was committed to mobilizing the police personnel of East Nusa Tenggara to curb human trafficking crimes.

'€œWe will maximize efforts by coordinating with related agencies such as the Indonesia Military, local administrations, non-governmental organizations and civil societies,'€ said Endang.

The East Nusa Tenggara Police managed to bring 27 human trafficking cases to court in 2015.

'€œPresident Jokowi requested us to pay attention to trafficking cases because many trafficking cases occur in East Nusa Tenggara,'€ said Endang. (cal/ebf)
