City-owned bus operator PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) is to provide free bus services for Jakartans holding low-cost apartment (rusun) resident ID cards and residents of Thousand Islands regency.
Transjakarta president director Antonius NS Kosasih said on Sunday that the Jakarta transportation and housing agencies were in the final stage of deciding the routes the buses would take.
'We hope that in the second week of January, the free bus services can begin,' Kosasih said as quoted by kompas.com on Sunday.
Transjakarta routes serving Kali Adem port, he said, were likely to be among those included, as the port served as a gateway to Jakarta for denizens of the Thousand Islands. From Kali Adem, the buses would pass nine low-cost rented apartment (rusunawa) compounds owned by the Jakarta administration and one rusunawa owned by the Buddha Tzu Chi Foundation.
'All the rusunawa will be served by new routes terminating at Kali Adem port,' said Kosasih, adding that the routes would end at the National Monument (Monas) compound in Central Jakarta and trade centers.
The free bus services, he went on, were intended to provide rusun residents and Thousand Islanders with fast and affordable access to economic centers in Jakarta.(ebf)
